We be chummin, don't you wanna chummin too?

Ok, once again the emails are pouring in with complaints that I am not updating enough. Not really but some of you have definitely inquired. I know the title is corny just a play on one of my favorite Bob Marley tunes, but it says it all, "chumming" that is what my last 6 weeks has consisted of mostly. Now don't get me wrong I have done plenty of snook fishing and some tarpon fishing but the offshore live chumming has been off the charts this year. Who can blame me? I take out flyfisherman that rarely see their backing and leave them crying uncle after only a few hours! What has made this year so special is that I have found a wreck that has been covered with amberjacks, I mean covered! Anyone reading this that has been out with me over the last few weeks is shacking their head agreeing. Amberjacks are typically left to the bottom fisherman with vertical speed jigging rods or live bait guys, not typically flyfisherman. But with the use of live chum I am able to get these fish literally up to the transom of the boat, easy targets for the fly rod. It is very hard for me to take photos while live chumming because my hands are constantly wet and covered with scales however I have been able to take a few grip and grins for you to enjoy. I have also had plenty of little tunnies or false albacore, for yous Northeast guys, along with sailfish and dolphin. I hope you enjoy the images and if you are interested in getting your workout in shoot me an email I still have 4 days left open in August. I will also include a hodge podge of pictures from the last 6 weeks.
Enjoy, JM

On a side note, I am starting my 11th year guiding and I would personally like to thank everyone that has ever booked me over the past 10 years. Here's a toast to 10 more successful years!

Just for the record, I have been using the Hatch reels for almost 2 years now and I could not be happier! They are by far the best fly reels I have ever owned. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Below is a shot that my buddy Mike Holliday took while I was live chumming, notice the sailfish in the chum!
